Jennifer Aniston, 56, has shared why she has never wanted to adopt children. The beloved actress, best known for Friends and currently starring in Apple TV’s The Morning Show, spoke honestly about her fertility struggles and her choice during a recent episode of the Armchair Expert podcast.
Aniston has been open in the past about going through in vitro fertilization (IVF) and facing infertility. Now, she says she has found peace with the reality that having a child may not happen for her.
“I Want My Own DNA in a Little Person”
During the podcast, co-host Monica Padman shared her own thoughts about freezing her eggs and being unsure about having children. Padman asked Aniston if she had found “peace” on the other side of her fertility struggles.
Aniston replied, “It’s so peaceful. But I will say there’s a point where it’s like out of my control. There’s literally nothing I can do about it.”
When the topic of adoption came up, Aniston was clear: “When people say, ‘But you can adopt,’ I don’t want to adopt. I want my own DNA in a little person. That’s the only way, selfish or not, whatever that is, I’ve wanted it.”
She admitted that she doesn’t talk about it often. However, she recalled moments where she met someone and thought they “would have made some good kids,” but said the feeling quickly passes.
Aniston explained that after dealing with infertility, it’s easy to romanticize what could have been. “It just wasn’t in the plan, whatever the plan was,” she said. “It’s very emotional, especially in the moment when they say ‘that’s it,’ because there is a weird moment when that happens.”
Finding Peace and Moving Forward
In a 2022 interview with Allure, Aniston shared that she has “zero regrets” about how her fertility journey turned out. On the podcast, she added, “Here I am today. The ship has sailed. I actually feel a little relief now because there is no more, ‘Can I? Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.’ I don’t have to think about that anymore.”
Aniston’s honesty about infertility, IVF, and her decision not to adopt makes her story relatable to many who have faced similar struggles. Despite the challenges, she has learned to accept her path and focus on the life she has now.
